In a statement, Koiki said: “I received a message from Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Igboho via his lawyer from Benin Republic, Olusegun Falola that he stands on his belief, self-determination for the Yoruba Nation, because there’s nothing like Nigeria again for him.
“He believes as a Yoruba man and the indigenous person of the land that it’s time for Yorubas to stand on their own as a Nation. “He said we should take a look at Benin Republic enjoying steady electricity supply. That’s what we desire in the Yoruba Nation we have been agitating for and we will get there very soon. He also reiterated that the Yoruba Nation is now; there is no going back.”
Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has said the parade of politicians who have been visiting the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu in London should serve as a warning to Nigerians ahead of the 2023 elections.
He said, “The way people are trooping to London to take photos with Bola Tinubu is a warning to Nigerians that if we repeat the mistake of 2015, and vote Tinubu in as President in 2023, we will have another UK based President.
“The fact that we are even considering a man who has been away for three months for an ailment that we do not know, and are very unlikely to know, is a sign that we have not suffered enough.”
Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Saturday, declared that his administration will turn Ibadan to a 21st century city through the provision of developmental projects across the city. The governor stated this at the inauguration ceremony of 2021/2023 Executive Council of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), led by its President General, (Prince) Oluyemisi Adeaga, at an event held at Ibadan House, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan.
The governor explained that the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes is an influential association in the whole of Oyo state, saying that he believes in the ideals of the association. A statement by the Chief Press Secratary to the governor, Mr.Taiwo Adisa, qouted the governor as saying that most of the projects embarked upon by his administration in Ibadan will transform the city to a 21st Century city.
He said: “We all know where CCII started and know where it is today. We all know the influence CCII exerts not only on Ibadan issues. If one can solve the issues in Ibadan, that means one can solve issues in the whole of Oyo State. And for me, I personally believe 101 per cent in the ideals of CCII. “The position of CCII on most germane issues concerning our state has always turned out to be the right one because our best, be it intellectual, be it spiritual, or social, are in CCII. So, I want to beg you, if you have any idea and you want us to provide access on it, come and tell us. We will do it.
“We have roughly two years to re-image Ibadan and we are already on that path. A few of the projects we are doing in Ibadan are projects that can lead Ibadan to a city of 21st century. We have commissioned the remodeled Lekan Salami Stadium when majority of states in Nigeria are talking about insecurity, kidnapping, banditry and insurgency; we were still at Adamasingba at 10 p.m. A foreign club was with us and we were not afraid.
“In terms of infrastructure, the Circular Road is one project that would change the landmark in Ibadan. It is 110kms but before our tenure ends in 2023, 75kms of it will be delivered. “If we can vividly reflect, there used to be bus terminal in Ogunpa in those days. So, we also want to recreate the same with the bus terminals we are putting up at Challenge, Iwo Road and Ojoo. Many people have said they like the light up project we have done already. The ones we have done in Ibadanland alone is not up to 30 per cent of what we planned to do. We are actually supposed to light up 156kms of road in Ibadan. And all they have done is less than 50kms.
“Finally, before I became the governor, I have been contributing my own quota to the growth of CCII. I want to assure you that we will fix the road that leads to this place. Another thing that would be done is, I will donate a bus for CCII.” The governor also told the gathering that the government and CCII members needed to be involved in the concerns of Olubadan of Ibadanland, adding that he would dust up the files and do something about the issues before the end of the tenure of the current government.
He said: “I do give Ibadan Indigenes scholarship and I want to contribute 10million Naira for that again.”
Africa’s richest man and the Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has said that the country cannot sit on crude oil while it imports virtually all of its fuel. The Kano-born businessman revealed that the shame of not having a working refinery in Nigeria, despite huge crude oil deposit inspired him into building the Dangote Refinery in Lagos which has gulped $19bn.
The refinery which has been an issue of debate is a 650,000 barrel-per-day capacity refinery. Nigeria, the continents largest oil crude oil exporter imports almost every of its fuel due to the squalid state of its moribund refineries.
Dangote told Arise Tv that, “What actually inspired me is that when you look at a country like India, where entrepreneurs and also government went ahead and created about 5 million barrels of oil refinery per day and this is a country that they actually don’t have oil at all and we are here now sitting on over 2.4 million barrels per day at a point and we don’t refine any of this oil.”
The refinery which is 6,000 times the size of a football field is projected to commence operation by January 2021. Worth $12.1bn according to Forbes, Dangote said he hopes to restore the dignity of the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
Nigeria has the tenth largest oil reserves, but its moribund refineries are currently undergoing renovation. He said, “Where you have a country with over 200 million, and we are importing 100 per cent of what we consume, it is not sustainable. If you go to a lot of areas maybe my village or your village you will see that petrol stations are not working.
“So, we now realised that the petroleum product that we have is ‘hand to mouth’; whatever that we have is what we are consuming. So this actually pushed me into saying that look you know what? This is a big challenge, it is a big issue, somebody has to address it and we will take the challenge of addressing this issue.
“It makes me feel terrible to see a country as big as Nigeria, as resourceful as Nigeria and this sort of population that we have 200 million plus and we are importing all our petroleum products. It is very very painful.”
Dangote however believes that the project will provide millions of direct and indirect employment in the country when completed. “Government will have more money in terms of education, health and in terms of infrastructure, So, it is going to be a massive transformational stuff,” he added.
