Schools may reopen after ban on interstate has been lifted- Minister of state for Education

Emeka Nwajiuba, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, has suggested that schools may reopen after the ban on interstate travel has been lifted nationwide.
The ban was placed by the Federal government as part of measures to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus in the country.
The Minister said this at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID19 today June 8.
According to the Minister, teachers and students will have to be able to have access to roads to travel back to their schools for academic activities to resume. He also said that schools will not be allowed to open unless medical experts have given their nod for resumption of academic activities.
In his words

“YOU HEARD ABOUT NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES THAT REOPENED AND SHUT DOWN AGAIN. YOU HAVE HEARD ABOUT NUMBERS SPIKING AS A RESULT OF REOPENING THE SCHOOLS. OF ALL THE THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO, I WOULDN’T WANT TO EXPERIMENT WITH YOUR CHILDREN.
WHAT WE ARE PLANNING IS TO ACTUALLY BRING IN THOSE EXIT YEARS FIRST AS SOON AS THOSE WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF THE BLOCKADE LIFT IT BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN OPEN OUR SCHOOLS IF TEACHERS CANNOT COME.
SO, WE ARE LOOKING AT SOMEWHERE AFTER WHEN THIS INTERSTATE LOCKDOWN IS LIFTED BECAUSE WE NEED TO HAVE THAT KIND OF OPENNESS FOR EVEN THE CHILDREN TO MOVE” HE SAID

Let EFCC probe corrupt allegations against your Speaker, HEDA tells Lagos Assembly

Let EFCC probe corrupt allegations against your Speaker, HEDA tells Lagos Assembly

An anti-corruption advocacy group, the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) on Sunday faulted the composition of the panel of inquiry put in place by the Lagos State House of Assembly to probe the corruption allegations against its Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

In a statement issued by its Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, the advocacy group argued that the allegations against the speaker were criminal and should be handled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Obasa had on Saturday appeared before the panel to defend himself on the allegations that least 64 bank accounts were discovered and linked to his Bank Verification Number (BVN).

The accounts, according to the petitioner, were registered with various names to siphon public funds.

Speaking on the matter, HEDA said the House panel could not reach a just outcome as it allegedly comprised of Obasa’s cronies.

The group described the proceedings of the investigating panel as a shenanigan, designed to arrive at a predetermined outcome.

The statement read: “The panel set up by the Lagos State House of Assembly is made up cronies of the Speaker. There is no way justice will be delivered to the people of Lagos, whose resources Obasa was said to have pillaged.

“Under the principle of fair process, the House is unfit to be a judge in its own case by constituting a committee to investigate allegations of crime against it.

“The Speaker cannot constitute a committee of his loyalists, many of whom have defended him on these allegations through the vote of confidence passed on him and expect any iota of seriousness or credibility attached to the committee or its recommendations. This simply goes without saying.

“The allegations against the Speaker are criminal in nature and completely outside the parliamentary power of the Assembly. We have directed these petitions to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for their actions. It would be honourable for the Assembly to allow these agencies to discharge their statutory responsibilities of investigating this matter.”

Rape: An Insecurity To Female Gender – Taiwo Noah

Rape: An Insecurity To Female Gender
By Taiwo Noah Jesuponmile

The legal definition of rape has changed substantially since the late 20th century. Rape is often explained or excused as a manifestation of racial, ethnic and class hatred or as stemming from a patriarchal system in which women are viewed as the property of men.
Whatever it’s origin, Rape is a serious Crime and it is treated as a felony in most countries with common-law system.
It has been seen in recent time that victims of rape choose not to report the crime to police or press charges due to humiliation.
It is no more a news in Nigeria, the incidents of rape we are having in recent days. Both Young and old are facing rape from all part of the country.
It is no more a news that one of our Nigeria students from Uniben UWA Omozua, a 22 years old microbiology student was raped and murdered by unknown men in a church at Edo state.
Bello Barakat of Federal college of Animal health and production Technology, Moore Plantation, Apata Ibadan was assaulted and murdered at her resident situated at Akinyele.
An aged woman of age 70 was assaulted before been rescued by her neighbors. Jennifer a girl of 12years was raped by 11 men at Jigawa.
All this as caused a security treat to the country at large and this as brought fear to our female genders in the Nation at large.
As a good citizen of Nigeria, let’s rise to defend our female genders, let’s all rise up to fight Rape in our dear Country, because Victims of Rape are been affected with trauma which also make them feel inferior in the society and it will also be a forever scar in their heart.
My message to the rapist is that they should desist from this behavior, female counterparts should be treated with love and care, because 5 mins for you, it’s forever for them.
To Nigeria Government, The power and strategies to curb this immoral behavior is there, bring all the culprit to book.
To my fellow Nigerians, let’s treat rape victims with love and care. They are human like us.

Justice for UWA
Justice for Jennifer
Justice for Barakat
Justice for all rape Victims

Solidarity,

Comrade Taiwo Noah Jesuponmile
The National General Secretary of Yoruba student association of Nigeria.

FG Comment on School Resumption

FG Comment on School resumption

Several fake news is flying across the internet claiming school might resume late July.
According to Ehanire, while addressing journalists during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja over the weekend, said no date had been fixed for reopening of schools.
“There is no fixed date on schools’ resumption. The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 is studying the situation, carrying out reviews every two and four weeks to access the situation and judge when it is safe.
“The Federal Government is taking very seriously the balance between safety and preventing disease explosion, and the opening of schools.
“We are encouraging schools to embrace online training and education as much as possible.
“As soon as the details are established and the risk of transmission is measured and established, then schools will reopen.
“We are aware of what is happening in neighbouring countries through the organ known as the West Africa Health Organisation.
“Few days ago, we held an inter-ministerial meeting of the ministers of health of the West African region to compare notes, review strategies, understand how others are tackling their problems, and reach a common ground on how to protect our region.
“We also consider how to do procurement together to reduce cost and how to share materials that we get from donations to the region.
“The protocol for border activities is also being studied. We have, through WAHO, worked out protocols on how border crossings will be conducted, particularly passenger transport.
“It has not been opened but we are working out the opening protocols and the measures that need to be taken for countries to protect themselves.”
