The School In Osun State Where No Fee Is Required

The school in Osun state where no fee is required

Abolarin College in Oke-Ila, Osun State. The students there pay NO school fees; enjoy free hostel, free food, free internet, free uniform, free laptop for every child, and 24 hours power supply; and all these expenses are paid by the town’s king. What is the most shocking is that the king teaches too in the school.
What makes this school remarkable is that one major criteria for getting admitted in is being poor. If your parents are rich, you cannot get admission. Unlike other schools, Abolarin College wants poor kids who are very brilliant. If you are poor but brilliant, the king will admit you!
The king believes poor brilliant kids should also be given an equal opportunity to become something in life- so that the future does not belong only to those born with silver spoons in their mouth. The king himself has a law degree and masters in law- and he also teaches in the school.
From what we gathered, the king has only one wife. Obviously, he is not using the money of the kingdom to accumulate wives or properties; instead he is investing it in the education of future leaders while he aims to reduce the burden of illiteracy in the society. For him, it doesn’t matter the religion, it is not about nepotism, neither is it restricted to Yoruba children nor only children from Oke Ila; it is about any less privileged child anywhere who is willing to be educated. That is why the only criteria for admission is poverty and brilliance.
Many of those kids previously hawked pepper, sachet water, fruits etc. Some came from farms where all they did was work under the hot sun weeding and planting. Many are orphans, hawkers, child labourers, delinquents, children of petty traders, but now they have hope, and not just hope, a future.
The Alaafin of Oyo and Ooni of Ife may have more money than this king, but in years to come, King Abolarin’s impact will take him to the echelons of greatness. What if we also have many Northern Sultans and Emir engaging in this? All across history, change begins with just a man! Dare to live differently, making an impact. It is what we do with money and our other resources that counts, for money has no value in itself!
This man is planting seeds that will blossom in the future. In the nearest years, that town will be filled with successful and accomplished people. I love this. God bless the King. This is one man that fully has my respect. We should celebrate such a Nigerian! This king is a legend and posterity will never forget him.

President Buhari set to approve reopening of worship centres

President Buhari set to approve reopening of worship centres

Mustapha was responding to questions from journalists after he led members of the PTF to brief the President as the first phase of the easing of lockdown restrictions elapses nationwide. He says the states have a critical role to play in the second phase of the gradual easing of the lockdown.

After submitting the fourth interim report to President Buhari on the gradual reopening of the economy at the Presidential Villa, the PTF said Nigeria is still in the most dangerous stage of the Covid-19 pandemic which is community transmission and its high time states, local governments, traditional and religious institutions take ownership of the next stage of the gradual easing of lockdown.

When asked if Nigeria is truly winning the fight against Covid-19, the PTF Chairman said the country is not out of the woods yet, hence the need for Nigerians to support government by adhereing to all guidelines.

President Buhari is expected to approve the recommendations of the PTF on which segment of the economy will be allowed to open on Monday.

Uganda records highest COVID-19 cases in single day

Uganda records highest COVID-19 cases in single day

Uganda’s Ministry of Health late Saturday reported 84 new cases of COVID-19, the highest daily increase so far, bringing the nationwide tally to 413.

Out of the 1,835 samples collected from cross-border cargo truck drivers and communities in the last 24 hours, 52 Ugandan truck drivers and 32 contacts of previously confirmed cases under quarantine tested positive for the virus, the ministry said in a statement.

“Additionally, 51 positive foreign truck drivers were handed over to their country of origin,’’ it said.

It has been the highest daily increase in COVID-19 cases since the index case was confirmed on March 21.

A total of 72 recoveries and no death has been so far reported in the country, according to the ministry.

Africa Will Be Last To Get Covid19 Vaccine – Researcher

Africa will be last to get Covid19 vaccine – Researcher

The Executive Director of Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine, Dr. John Amuasi, says by the time the race for COVID-19 vaccines production ends, Africa will be the last in line to get any vaccine or medicines.

Consequently, he warned, Africa would be the last continent to be considered for vaccination.

He said before the news of any scientific breakthrough gets into public domain, it would have advanced beyond the stage announced to the media.

Speaking at a webinar on ‘Balancing the tripod of a pandemic: The role of government, NGOs and Research Organisations,’ organised by the Global Emerging Pathogens Treatment Consortium, Amuasi said the picture in Africa concerning the spread of the pandemic had not received special attention because the focus is always on Europe and North America.

“The news is always revolving around North America and Europe. How much of Africa do you hear in the news?

“For Ebola, it was different because they were all pretty safe over there, while the disease raged through Africa.

“I can tell you that the COVID-19 vaccine is also all about North America and Europe. While there are all these talks about access to Africa, we must not kid ourselves.

“We will be the last in line to get any vaccine or medicines. It is just a fact!”

While reiterating that it was not a conspiracy theory, the researcher, who is also a teacher at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, said people should understand that it was the way things work.

“Before news of a potential vaccine or cure gets out there in the public domain, you can be sure that it has gone pretty advanced from where it was coming from. It would have gone far before the rest of the world gets to hear about it.

“When you recognise this, it helps us to approach things in the right perspective.

“This is why many African governments decided to go a bit easy and ease some of the lockdown restrictions,” he said.

CAN issued draft guidelines for reopening of Churches

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued draft guidelines for the reopening of churches in the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by CAN President, Reverend Samson Ayokunle.
The statement said, “We are discussing with the federal government on the re-opening of the churches nationwide. We know the danger of COVID-19 is not over yet but we are thinking that if we engage this method of congregational cry unto God over the pandemic, God would hear our prayers.
The government from our discussions wants us to draw up suggested guidelines for worship in keeping with COVID-19 containment requirements and submit for approval.”
“Below is a draft which I want you to see and possibly add to, if there is any remaining.
“Quick response is important because I and the Sultan of Sokoto would hold a zoom meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation this week.
“We hope that latest by the first week in June, we would be back in churches nationwide.
The suggested guidelines.

  1. Churches should disinfect their premises first before they are reopened for services.
  2. Churches should provide alcoholic sanitizers, temperature readers, soap and water in their Premises to be supervised by medical professionals in the Church.
  3. Every worshipper must either use soap to wash their hands or apply sanitizers.
  4. The temperature of every worshipper must be taken before admission into the church and people with the high temperature should not be allowed into the church but be advised to go and see their doctors.
  5. Every worshipper must wear facemask.
  6. Social distancing should be observed in the sitting arrangement with one meter gap between two worshippers.
  7. One and a half hour service is enough for a start.
  8. There should be a gap of 25 or 30 minutes between one service and another where there are multiple services to avoid crowd.
  9. Churches can make use of classrooms and multipurpose halls for services where available, especially in big churches in order to accommodate more worshippers at a go. TV circuit and speakers can be used for those who are not inside the main auditorium.
  10. Handshaking and hugging should be avoided before, during and after the service.
  11. Prayers should be offered to God for a speedy end of COVID-19 and quick recovery of all that are afflicted by the pandemic. Prayers should also be offered for those frontline workers for divine protection.
  12. CAN in each state and local government should constitute a committee together with law enforcement agencies in their area to enforce full compliance. Such civilian compliance officials should be given backing by the governments to apprehend those who contravene the worship regulations and hand them over to law enforcement agents.
  13. Churches observing Holy Communion service should use separate cup for each participant.
  14. Thank you for the anticipated prompt response. For the King,

Protest in Benue state as Local Government Election Materials are being Diverted

Protest in Benue state as Local government election materials are being diverted

The materials were said to have been moved by staff of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission to the house of one Samson Okwu, member representing Oju/Obi Federal Constituency in the National Assembly under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

An eyewitness at the scene of the protest said, “While everyone stood outside the BESIEC office waiting for the electoral officials to begin the process of identifying their ad-hoc staff, a PDP agent was granted access into the BESIEC office where the electoral materials were kept.”

The witness said the discovery that election materials had been moved to Okwu’s house led to the protest by observers and agents from other parties participating in the elections.

“Top electoral officers are heading to Samson Okwu’s residence for negotiations. The LGA returning officer was trying to make his way out of the BESIEC premises under the pretext of going to take breakfast. He has been prevented from leaving members of the opposition parties present because of concerns he is going to the lawmakers house,” the source added.

Meanwhile, electoral officials have begun the identification of ad hoc staff, who will conduct the exercise in different wards.
