Ghana’s Health Minister Contracts Coronavirus

Ghana’s Health Minister Contracts Coronavirus

Ghana’s Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, is recovering in hospital after testing positive for COVID-19.

According to Accra-based Citi FM, the Minister has been receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Accra over the past week.

The minister was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday and is “in a stable condition”.

It was gathered that the Minister contracted the virus after his wife and son were both admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of UGMC.

The Ministry of Health corroborated the information as checks suggest that Mr Agyeman Manu has taken a few days off.

The UGMC currently has 4 patients on admission at the ICU with several others in the main wards of the hospital’s COVID-19 wing.

The Health Minister is the first high profile government official whose COVID-19 status will be known to the public.

Anytime he spoke at the bi-weekly press briefings on COVID-19 by the Information Ministry, the Dormaa Central MP called on Ghanaians to be cautious.

However, the press briefings have not been organised in a while with no explanations.

This is happening at a time when the Majority in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has expressed his frustration at how MPs, Parliamentary Service staff, and journalists who tested positive for the virus have refused to self-isolate.

The Minority Chief Whip, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, had insisted that two of his fellow MPs and 13 parliamentary staff had tested positive.

“What happened in Parliament and what you heard [about MPs testing positive for COVID-19] is the fact. It is the truth,” Mr. Muntaka insisted

Hushpuppi To Be Flown Back To Nigeria by INTERPOL for Prosecution.

Hushpuppi To Be Flown Back To Nigeria by INTERPOL for Prosecution.

Plans are underway by the International Police (INTERPOL) Nigeria to extradite Instagram celebrity Raymond Igbalodely a.k.a. Hushpuppi from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Nigeria to face alleged multiple fraud charges, The Nation learnt on Friday.
The INTERPOL is also on the trail of other accomplices in the alleged fraud who are resident in Nigeria to bring them to justice.
Commissioner of Police (CP) INTERPOL, Garba Umar disclosed these to The Nation yesterday while confirming the arrest of Igbalodely whose real name is said to be Ramoni Igbalode.
He said: “It is true that Hushpuppi was arrested by the INTERPOL. We are currently working on bringing him to Nigeria to face charges of fraud.
“Some of the offences were committed here in Nigeria and he has to answer for them. He is not alone in it; there are accomplices in the country who we are currently on their trail,” said the CP.
Hushpuppi, known for his reckless display of wealth on social media, was arrested three days ago for allegedly hacking into the United States (US) unemployed database and impersonating citizens qualified for unemployment funds.
He and his accomplices in Nigeria, Dubai and other countries allegedly defrauded the US of over $100 million meant for Native Americans in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
The Nation reports that his arrest came three days after he posted a picture of his newly acquired 2020 Rolls Royce Cullinan worth about N280 million, the latest addition to his fleet of exotic vehicles.
It was alleged that Hushpuppi was arrested alongside two of his friends after weeks of investigation by the US Secret Service, following the alarm raised in May about a crime ring of suspected Nigerians who broke into the personal information of citizens and used factitious unemployment claims to steal hundreds of millions of dollars reserved to help jobless American people.
The syndicate was alleged to have filed in so many names of Americans who were still working to various state unemployment offices and collected money from the system.
They were alleged to have used information stolen from first responders, government personnel and school employees.
Ramoni Igbalode may not ring a bell. But the mention of Hushpuppi alerts many about the Nigerian born Instagram celebrity who lives in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Hushpuppi is virtually synonymous with glamour.
Until Wednesday, June 10, when he was reportedly arrested, he had kept entertaining his 2.3 million followers on Instagram with his luxurious lifestyle. His name echoes glamour and panache as he junkets the globe on private jets, flaunting high-end clothing, watches, and shoes on the social media.
Known for his weakness for luxury and high-end brands like Gucci, Balenciaga, Rolls Royce and Versace, Hushpuppi is a regular face at Dubai’s premier luxury department, Harvey Nichols.
Although he claims to be a real estate developer, according to his bio on Instagram, his high taste for expensive lifestyle has not only endeared him to his 2.3 million followers on Instagram but also celebrities and dignitaries from different walks of life.
From music stars to footballers and Nigerian lawmakers, Hushpuppi’s name resonates across the globe – with roots in Nigeria and Dubai.
On January 7, 2020, ex-Senator Dino Melaye turned 46 and decided to throw a lavish party for the occasion in Dubai. The guest list had the names of ex-Speaker of the House of Representative, Yakubu Dogara, and former APC spokesman, Timi Frank. Also at the party filled with the distinguished guests was no other than Hushpuppi, the Instagram celeb who partied and took pictures with Dogara, Timi Frank, and Dino Melaye.
The lifestyle displayed by Hushpuppi on Instagram drew several Nigerian music stars to him. Touted as a philanthropist, music stars like Olamide and 9ice sang Hushpuppi’s praises with reckless abandon. It is, however, not certain whether these music stars benefitted from Hushpuppi’s largesse.
On November 16, 2014, Hushpuppi was spotted with ‘Kukere’ star, Iyanya. He shared a picture of himself with the singer with the caption, “Out for dinner with Mr. Oreo Iyanya.”
On November 1, 2018, Hushpuppi shared a picture of himself with Wizkid. The two were seen to be hanging out somewhere in Dubai.
On March 26, 2019, Hushpuppi shared a picture of himself with Manchester City defender and French international, Benjamin Mendy. Although the nature of the relationship between the Instagram celeb and the footballer could not be established, he captioned the picture, “I wish I can play for Manchester City and be humble and down to earth like my bro Ben Mendy. Thanks for being the most amazing person ever bro.”

36 Govs, Deputies, 774 LG Chairmen Will Make Nigeria Bankrupt – Muhammad Sanusi

36 Govs, Deputies, 774 LG Chairmen Will Make Nigeria Bankrupt – Muhammad Sanusi

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and former Kano Emir, Muhammad Sanusi, has said that the makeup of the Nigerian Government has made bankruptcy inevitable in the future, as it continually proves too expensive to maintain.
During a webinar titled, ‘Mitigation of the economic impact of COVID-19 and the path to recovery’, the former emir said that during his tenure as governor of the CBN, the government of the time had spent 80 percent of its annual revenue on the payment of salaries and overheads, while the price of oil was more than $100 per barrel.
He said that “extremely high overheads and you need a high contribution margin to break even, you would be looking at how to reduce cost.”
Sanusi said, “Now, I’m sure that with the shortfall in revenues and where oil price is, after debt service, we probably have to borrow to pay salaries. We have got to look at that structure.”
He added, “If you have a company and you have extremely high overheads and you need a high contribution margin to break even, you would be looking at how to reduce cost. So, we have a constitution that says we should have a president and a vice-president, we must have a minister from every state of the federation, whether or not it’s 36 ministries; we should have 109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives.
“It also said we should have 36 governors, 36 deputy governors, each state with its House of Assembly and comprising many legislators, 774 local government chairmen, councillors, the personal assistants and special assistants (at all levels), staff members and vehicles.
“With these, you are already set up to be bankrupt. This is something I have been talking about for years. We need to ask ourselves; the structure that we have, does it leave us any option rather than to remain unsustainable over time? This is the kind of conversation we need to have as a country.
“Do we need a bicameral legislature; do we need close to 500 legislators in Abuja; do we need the hundreds of state legislators; what are they doing; do we need all these local government chairmen and councillors or do we need to look at that structure?”

BBNaija Kaffi’s Brother Shot Dead

BBNaija Kaffi’s Brother Shot Dead

Alexander, brother of a former Big Brother Naija housemate, Khafi Kareem’s brother, was gunned down close to his family home in Shepherd’s Bush, West London.

The student screamed out “help me” as he lay dying in the street at 12.40am.

Passers-by tried to give him CPR before paramedics reached the scene – but Alexander was pronounced dead a short time after.

A friend told The Sun: “His family is distraught. Alex wouldn’t talk down to anyone – he was friends with everybody.

“They are all good people. His sister Khafi spreads positivity through her YouTube account. She wakes up and prays for people at 7.30 every morning.

“Alex’s brother is trying to get back from Australia to grieve with the rest of his family, his mum is completely devastated.”

The friend added: “After leaving school Alex was the same goofy guy – he was always happy – and always had a smile on his face.”

Dozens of colourful bouquets had been left near the scene of shooting yesterday along with a bottle of brandy and a crucifix.

Mourners left tributes, including one photo showing Alexander with classmates with a message reading “You will always be in our hearts”.

Other pictures were left surrounded by candles, showing the tragic victim as a youth dressed in a blue rugby kit.

Covid19: Edo state to reopen after June 28

Covid19: Edo state to reopen after June 28

In a briefing on Saturday, Governor Godwin Obaseki explained that the re-opening is scheduled to come after June 28, which is the expected peak date of the coronavirus pandemic in the state based on government models.

“We are not going to be in a permanent state of lockdown,” Obaseki said. “We have to now begin to learn to live with this virus.

“So the tendency all over the world now is to accept the reality of COVID-19 and see how we can now get people to adjust their behaviour.”

Obaseki condemned the actions of infected persons who chose to self-isolate rather than submit to government-approved facilities.

“Although we have comfortable facilities that can care up to 500 people at the Stella Obasanjo hospital, some persons are still refusing to isolate and receive treatment in this facility,” he said.

“They are rather opting to isolate themselves at home. And if you do so, the likelihood of infecting other people, particularly the elderly people around you is very high. And therefore we will be perpetuating more community transmission and spread the public health hazard.

“We frown against this selfish behaviour and henceforth we will be publishing a list of persons who refuse to isolate in our isolation and treatment centres.”

The Governor also reiterated that social distancing measures were still active in the state, despite the state’s imminent governorship elections.

“In view of the upcoming elections, and to reduce infection transmission rates during political gatherings, I have issued a gazette that provides guidance on how political parties can conduct their activities and rallies,” Obaseki said.

“There remains a restriction on the gathering of more than 20 persons.

“However, where a higher number of persons are required to gather, permits with specified locations, guidelines and supervision may be granted by the Edo state government.”

Shooting in Villa: Buhari should speak out- PDP

Shooting in Villa: Buhari should speak out- PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is alarmed by the reported shooting and security breaches within the precincts of the Presidential villa following a reported degenerated squabble among family members and officials of the Buhari Presidency.
Disclosing this in a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary, the party said it was deeply worried that the protracted spat between the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, and aides of President Muhammadu Buhari has now degenerated into violent combats, raids and free use of firearms within the Presidential villa.
The party described as distressing, the report that a members of Mr. President’s family were at scene of the assault against one of President Buhari’s aides, during which the First Lady’s security details were alleged to have resorted to the use of firearms.
Our party is disturbed by such ugly situation in the Buhari Presidency, which has already heightened apprehensions in the public space over the apparent failure of security architecture and central command system in the presidency leading to such reckless and irresponsible breaches.
The chaotic situation in the Presidential villa only points to the failure by President Buhari to provide a leadership that can guarantee orderliness in governance and effectively ensure the security of our nation.
The PDP notes that such leadership failure at the highest level has further exposed why our nation has been bedeviled by myriads of security and economic problems under President Buhari’s watch in the last five years.
More worrisome is that the Buhari Presidency had failed to speak out on the frightening situation so as to reassure Nigerians and douse the tension in the polity; especially at this critical time when our nation is facing serious security challenges.
The PDP therefore calls on President Buhari to take immediate steps to restore order in his Presidency and shield our security system from the division and power tussle among persons close to him.
Our party also demands for an immediate inquest into the security breaches as well as the alleged violation of COVID-19 ban on inter-state travels by officials and relations of Mr. President, which was reported to be part of the immediate causes of latest disturbances in the Presidential villa.
Furthermore, the PDP urges the National Assembly to save the nation by wading into the persistent infighting in the Buhari Presidency especially as those in charge of the Presidential villa has not demonstrated the required capacity to engender the needed orderliness for productive governance.
